HP Scanner Issue

when i try to open my scanner program i get an error message, “your scanner is currently being accessed by another application. wait for the app to finish or close to allow HP to procede.”

Then i tried opening it from photoshop 7 and i get a different message, “could not open the twain source make sure there is a valid source for you scanner in the twain directory found in the windows directory.
