https Certificate storage on WINNT 4.0

Platform WinNT 4.0 SP6 and IE 5.5 SP1.
When connecting to a secure site (https) does WinNT/IE store the certificate from that site? If so where does that certificate get stored? When that site changes its ceritficate, will WinNT/IE overwrite the old value?
