I’m trying to use a hub to connect two pcs to a cable modem. One of the pc’s using win2k and is connecting fine, the other one using XP home edition and it is not connecting at all. The IP I got is 169.254. (APIPA) I tried connecting it directly it still not getting IP address. I reinstalled winxp and still have the same issue. of course I test the cable which is is connected to the modem on the other machine and it work fine. Also I do not use the hub when I try to connect with XP anymore. This pc was working before. Also I could not see any of the two pc’s on the other machine. I tried installing small network, and all other network settings wizards in XP and it simply does not work. releasing the adaptor and renewing it (repair) does not work. It bring back the same IP 169.254
The weired thing when I take this pc to work (it is HP Pavilion laptop) it connect to the network fine. My ISP is road runner. Please do not advise to contact them, I already did that.
