I tweaked msconfig and now I cannot boot xp pro normally or in safe mode

I appreciate help with this.

I have XP pro sp2, on a relatively new rig, Core2Duo E6300 1.8GHz, 1G RAM 800Mhz, 7600GT video card. I also have two hard drives (SATA 250 split 50 for OS/200 for data), drive 2 old 40Gig with dual Linux/Older non functional XPpro.

I was trying to increase bootup speed, I unchecked a few items from startup in Msconfig (all with identifiable names such as skype, Acrobat, quicktime). I restarted the computer without problem. I got the message about starting up in selective mode, which at the time I didn’t know what it ment. I clicked on normal startup again, and went back to startup tab, and unchecked the same programs again except that I unchecked MSN too. In that time, windows automatically installed 2 sercurity patches and asked for a restart. I restarted the computer, and I cannot boot into windows (neither normal, nor safe mode, nor last known configuration).

PLEASE HELP. My windows was running smoothly and perfectly prior to this. There must be a way to fix this through the recovery console. I appreciate any insight. Thanks.
