Hi,
First post here guys, so be gentle 😉
My laptop (HP Omnibook XE3) crashed a horrific crash a few days ago and on attemted reboot could no longer find a hard drive.
I managed to start a diagnostic through the Hewlett Packard troubleshooting system on startup.
It is e-DiagTools, Ver 3.01r.
It read through 69% of the disk before it started to find errors, and offer to fix them.
So, at Cyl=0707, Head=150 Sec=20 it began to fix sectors with LBA IDs. It takes maybe 3 mins to fix them, then finds another new LBA ref to fix after another 3 mins. It has now repaired about 20 or so corrupt sectors after 2 days of this activity.
However, the display still tells me only 69% is tested and we are still at Cyl=0707, Head=150 Sec=20. I thought the ‘Sec’ value should increment at each new LBA reference?
The quandry now is, do I let the Disk Test continue for possibly many many days, or do I just push Escape, abort the test and try my luck.
The laptop is now 3 years old, but got a new motherboard 2 months ago. Are we talking a dustbin job here or should I just replace the Hard Disk if it is dead?
