IDE to SATA boot drive

I have an older IDE system in which I have installed a SATA II-150 PCI card to accept a SATA drive. I have cloned the IDE boot drive to the SATA drive but cannot get the system to boot from the SATA drive. Removing the IDE drive gives no boot (IDE drive not found). How can I get the SATA to be the new boot drive in Windows XP?
