IE 5.5 only saves pictures as bitmaps!?

Without notice all of a sudden my IE5 will only save pictures on the internet as .BMP’s??? I have tried going to various internet sites and righ-clicking pictures and still the same thing. I did not change anything lately. I usually am able to download pics as JPEG’s. I tried reloading IE 5 from Microsoft’s CD-ROM, to no avail. Any help would be great.
