IE constantly refreshes

On my Win 98 system the internet exploere (5.5) is acting like it is constantly refreshing. It will dial up as normal, then before it can load the page the status bar shows that it is trying to reload again. This goes around and around and never fully loads. I have run an updated Mcafee on the system via network but it detected nothing. I have installed IE 6.0 and still didnt help. Any ideas? Known viruses?
