IE slow on SSL connections on Win98

by nierman@bsd . Updated 24 years, 9 months ago

Perhaps someone has an idea for the following problem:

I have a machine which duel boots win2k and win 98. (originally was win 2k, used system commander to install win 98). Under win98 I’m experiancing a slowness on certain SSL web sites at login. After entering a username and hitting tab (or cliking in the pw box with the mouse) there is a noticible delay before the cursor moves to the PW box. Here are some notes about the case:

The machine is a dell GX400 with 384 mgs ram

When accessing the same sites on the same machine from win2k there is no slowness.

When accessing the same sites from other w98 machines- no slowness.

Problem occurs with IE5.5, Upgraded to 6- didn’t help.

Tried cleaning out all temp files on machine- including the “temp int file” folder.

At one point the machine had the w32.weird virus, but that has been cleaned, and user says problem occured immediatly after w98 was installed.

Re-ran w98 setup over existing installation- didn’t help.

Thanks.
