IE5.5 hangs loading Flash

Using IE5.5 SP1 on 98SE (upgraded to IE5.5 from 5 when problem already existed). Trying to access a page containing Flash hangs the machine, and Ctrl-Alt-Del shows the IE window as “not responding”. There is also a task running called ““. End-tasking IE and the tasks bring the machine back to reponding, and we can open IE again, and browse as long as we don’t go to a page that loads Flash.

I have upgraded IE from 5 to 5.5SP1, repaired IE, loaded Windows Update Critical Updates, even reinstalled Win98SE over the top. I have tried downloading Flash, and Shockwave & Flash, but whenever it tries to open a page with Flash it all hangs.

Help please.
