IE6 closes when certain words typed

I run XP Pro with IE6. As soon as I’ve typed the URL www.gateway.gov.uk in IE6 the browser closes immediately. Similarly, if I type JavaScript the same thing happens. Can anyone suggest a remedy?

I need to contact the government gateway urgently but cannot because of this immediate closure of IE6
