iexplorer crashes everytime

I have recently installed Windows 2000. I’m running IE 5.5. But when ever I try to search for anything or input text into a text box. IE crashes. I installed Netscape and it does the same thing. Even if I try to do a find it crashes. Is there a reason for this? I have gone back to using my harddrive with 98 because it was causing me too many problems.
