Our web site was outsourced earlier this year and moved from an in-house server running under O’Reiley’s Web Site Pro to one running IIS, I think 4. We were and still are running WebTrends Pro for web stat analysis but we’ve run into a problem.
We host multiple sites on the one server, and we pull individual stats for each site. On the old server, we logged all activity to one log file and we parsed the information as needed within WebTrends.
Now, I’m being told by our host vendor that wecan’t get aggregated stats for the entire server because IIS requires that each site be logged to a seperate log file and that WebTrends cannot aggregate statistics from multiple log files.
I’m willing to believe the part about the limited functionality of WebTrends, but what about the part about the multiple log files? Is there really a *requirement* under IIS that neccesitates multiple log files for multiple web sites hosted on the same server, or is this pretty much an OPTION? I looked ina couple of IIS reference manuals and couldn’t find anything that suggested the need for multiple log files. Any insight would be appreciated.
