Ink Jet Printers vs Laser Jet Printers

I have noticed the price of ink jet printers comming down in price. The cost of ink jet cartridges keeps their maintenance costs high. Considering the service life of these printers and the cost of using them; warrant a switch to the higher cost laser jet printers. Of course the necessity of color printing would warrant a ink jet be available. Would there be a per/sheet cost analysis available to determine which printer to buy?
