Hello –
New to this forum.
My experience is Mainframe – not entirely new to PC, but I’m finding this to be a challenge.
Recently purchased a Compaq Presario SR2032X, SATA HD 200 GB, Award Phoenix BIOS ver. 3.00.
I want to use my old storage HD (WD1200JB) as storage with this new Compaq. I installed the 120 GB drive internally without jumper. I revised the BIOS setting to boot from the SATA drive.
The drive was recognized within the BIOS and was recognized as an unassigned drive within WINXP computer management. At that point I reformatted my 120 drive and re-booted. This is the problem – the computer will reboot prior to showing the WinXP logon screen and other times it boots normally. I do not know why this behavior boot occurs and I do not know how to fix or override this issue. When the computer does reboot I get the F8 menu. When I select Windows XP it loads normally. I did contact HP about this and the guy I spoke to advised me to get an external setup, but I’m wiped out spending money as I’ve purchased two new computers inside of two months and I do need this extra HD. Any comments or suggestions most welcome. Thank you.
