As you can see from the title, this problem doesn’t make much sense.
I have a win2k advanced server, sp3, with DNS installed. I have 2 NICs, a 3com 905-tx (Tested good) and a recently purchased Dlink DFE-538 (Tested good). I’ve never had trouble with any of these cards until I used them together, in one machine, which is my server.
Right now, only my 3com card is installed, and everything works great. I’ve installed DNS, configured AD, no problems.
However, if I install the 2nd card(D-Link), my DNS stops working. If I go to the monitoring tab in my DNS console, both simple and recursive queries fail, I can still ping other machines by name, but if I try joining a machine to my domain, it won’t find it.
If I uninstall thecard (Dlink), both the queries work fine, and any machines that join the domain are able to do so with no problems.
I am using the correct drivers that came with my CD. I’ve played around with giving the NIC static IP and have it obtain one automatically, doesn’t matter, it always ends up the same. Also had both NICs point to the server for DNS but that didn’t help either.
I do have an older Dlink card which I can try replacing it with and see if I still get the same issue.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for my current setup, before I try replacing the card.
