Installing a second Domain Controller.

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

Hello all. I am trying to install a second domain controller to my network. When running Active Directory install, I choose “additional domain controller for existing domain.” I keep getting the following error when it attempts to create the ntdsa object on the existing domain controller.

The operation failed because:

The Directory Service failed to create the server object for CN=NTDS Settings,CN=XXXXXX,CN=Servers,CN=XXXXXX,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=XXXXXX,DC=com on server XXXX. Please ensure the network credentials provided have sufficient access to add a replica.

“A Service Principal Name (SPN) could not be constructed because the provided hostname is not in the necessary format. ”

Anyone come across this before? The user name I am using is a member of the Enterprise Admin group. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks very much.
