Installing Lexmark Z23 in Windows 98SE

Does anyone know what steps to take to get the Z23 printer running on Win98SE? I have tried all kinds of combinations and I still cannot print – I get a communication error when I try. And the driver installation and software setup does not go smoothly – programs hang and other errant behavior. Any ideas?
