Installing modem in ibm thinkpad

Boy has anybody ever done this.I can’t get it to see it have just installed drivers system says modem is there no conflicts but it is dead.This is win 95 run on a IBM Thinkpad 760el with no cd-rom drive.So I have been busy on the Ibm site reloading everything I could find.Splitting files.I should mention that this is a PCMCIA modem,sound blaster.Also there are no client drivers installed.Allmost acts like the port is dead.Have installed it to com port 3 am I suppose to disable com 3 on this like you do a desktop? And if so how the Bios to me is weird.Give me a desktop any day.Any help on this would be appreciated.And that stupid card director says there is a card in there but not which one.
