I need some help as I have a computer that simply will not install SP1 for XP Pro. It installs without incident and performs properly to the point where it reboots after the BIOS check the screen goes blank and nothing happens. If you try to restoreto last known good configeration it runs up until the reinstall screen which only lasts a few seconds and then reboots. Everything else installs properly without any incident. The Computer uses an ASUS P4B-M M’Board with a 1,6 Ghz P4, 1 Gig of Ram {yes its new and the right type}, 1 X 40 GB Maxator HDD as a boot drive {new}, 1 X 80 GB Maxator HDD as a program/data drive {new}, a Sony 24X10X40 CDRW a Sony DVD Drive {new again} there is an Antec 400 W Power supply {new again} and an unbranded Vedio card that has a MX400 Chip Set with 32 Meg Ram. At present I have reduced the computer to 1 X 20 GB Quantum HDD that I know works a Sony Cd drive that I know works as I have ratted these from one of my computers the mouse keyboard and monitor. I have installed this Update version of Win XP Pro on another computer and loaded SP1 without trouble. So I come back to a hardware conflict somewhere. At present I have exhausted all of Microsoft Support line suggestions and I am going to change the video card {out of desperation but I’ m not holding my breath} about the only thing that hasn’t been changed is the M’Board CPU combo and the vedio card. I have used my trial Keyboard/mouse/monitor here and gone to the owners place and used his bits. Presently I have it fully loaded in its normal configeration but without SP1 and I am using another HDD to play with loading XP then installing the service pack as I no longer wish to perform total reloads it just gets booring.
If anybody has any ideas I’m open to them as I am fast running out of ideas or things to try and Microsoft has already given up.
If any more information is required please feel free to ask me.
