Instant Message Interfaces

Is there a free downloadable interface out there that can integrate the different instant messaging services? I’ld like to be able to im my friends with yahoo email addresses and the like. I understand from reading articles that AOL blocks that sort of thing. But I want to talk to those with ISP’s that don’t block.
