Perhaps someone can shed some light on a problem I’ve come across with a neighbours computer.
When I try to access the internet (through Sympatico) I end up with:
1. Error in socket driver (memory dump)
2. Smss.exe or services.exe or csrss.exe blocked
This is in Windows ME.
I’ve used CCleaner to clean the registry and remove all temporary files. I’ve run an old (2004) update CD from Microsoft (she’s never updated her operating system). I’ve tried a variety of settings for Sympatico and she has had several long conversations with the Sympatico Help? desk, to no avail. I’ve removed a non-operational 2000 version of Norton and replaced it with AVG. I’ve also removed 4 instances of the Sober virus.
I’d do a re-install but she got the computer from her daughter and neither knows where the OS CD is.
Any help would be much appreciated.
