Problem:- Extremely slow or no browsing of the internet by user logged onto network through remote access.
Domain Controller (RAS) is Windows 2000 SP3
Native AD
Dial in remote access via 33.6K faxmodem.
Network connection to Internet = permanent 512K SDSL
Symptoms:
User logs onto LAN via remote access through the modem successfully with full network functionality. Then tries to browse the internet with virtually no success. Sometimes a page will load on the user’s remote PC but most occasions the user gives up after waiting for over 3 minutes.
Tests are as follows:
Page on Internet site hosted by the same ISP used by the LAN takes approx 3 seconds to load when the user is at a LAN workstation.
The same page will take over 3 minutes to load or not load at all if trying to access on a user PC from home which is logged onto the network via remote access.
Prior to the upgrade of the Domain Controller from Windows NT4 SP6a to Windows 2000 SP3 this problem did not exist and seemmed to be quite effecient.
There has been no change to the modems or the telephone lines etc.
Is this one of those things that MS have either unintentionally or intentionally removed from the Win2000 system?
Hope someone can offer an explanation.
Thanks in anticipation
