I inherited and am working on a simple peer network with 6 PCs that share a few folders and printers all have Win98. There’s one system that won’t connect to the internet.
The hard drive was transferred from another PC and since then there’s no internet. The company did have the Klez virus but that was taken care of and again the other 5 systems connect. The virus software was manually removed and reinstalled.
The connection is DSL with Cisco 678 router, TCP/IP, DNS and Gateway checked to becorrect or matching other systems. Changed settings to that of another working PC, no go. The PC can connect to the LAN and access all shares. The others can see this one too. Originally there was nic installed so took it out and used onboard nic. Removed all networking components, and IE6. Reinstalled networking no go.
Reinstalled win98.
Ran winipcfg tried releasing and restarting all. Can ping router but not past. IE settings check and home page for all PCs set the same. Ran file checker and there was one file that was changed or corrupt extracted that.
I’m going to try a fresh install of win98 in another folder to see if it connects. Because of the software installed It’s not an option to format and start the system over and don’tthink it’s needed.
Final (dumb) question is there any way that the router will not allow the MAC address of this nic?
