internet explorer

when a link on the webpage is clicked to “open a link in a new window” the link is not directly & internally copied in addressbar of the IE-6,which should be;but I ve to copy the shortcut on the addressbar to open that link.I ve tried reinstalling the IE-6 to shortout this problem but failed? Can anyone sort out what to do so as to open the link on the web page directly in the new window,os-win98 se
