Internet Explorer errors

I have a system with windows 98 SE and Internet Explorer 6. The explorer version was version 5 but it had a error that when I opened Internet Explorer it brought up a window saying there was a problem with Internet Explorer and it needs to close. When I click on the option to see what data the error report contains it gives me the following message
Error signature
App Name :iexplore.exe
Appvers 6.0.28.00.1106
Mod ver 0.0.0.0
offset 97638f16
Mod name: unknown

I upgraded to Explorer 6 hoping to fix this problem but the exact same message appears. I have used the Internet Explorer repair tool but it made no diffirence. If I ignore the error box then I can still browse the Internet with a problem.
I have checked the microsoft site but find nothing that relates to this particular error message.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
