Internet Explorer / Hiperlink Problem

I am running XP Pro. I am having a problem in MS office 2000 applications launching hiperlinks. IE 6.02 (sp1) pops open and is stuck.

Example: Launch IE and so a google search. Launch a site from within the search and a IE browser pops up withnothing in the address bar and is frozen.
