internet provider

I need a suggestion on a reliable and inexpensive internet provider for my home. I have tried from AOL to verizon dsl which is too expensive for me. All I do is check emails and browse the web an hour to two every day. I have had connections likefor example AT&T and AOL that sometimes does not connect at all when I need to be connected.
