Invalid Function 2000 and CD-Writer

Having problems with cd writers that are being used in 2000 pro machines. Multiple machines have the problem, invalid function errors are given on all machines along with other errors that are similar. The things that are in common are 2000 pro, cd writers(lite-on, on all) and on huge headache. Any thoughts on the matter would be great.
