iomega burner does not work

I have a HP Pavilion 4550Z and tried to attach an Iomega CD-RW 48x24x48x through one of the USB ports; the SW seems to install OK but when I connect the HW, the system crashes (blue screen)
I will appreciate somebody helping me with this matter.
