IPod downloading music

I have a duron 700 P.C. with windows Xp, service pack one and 758 ram I instaled a 2.0 USB I ALSO have a DVD Player instald I have tried all trouble shooting that is in the manual and changed my drive to a higher letter in the alphabet when I connect the ibod mini it will not show in my drive for 5 minutes or so and when the itunes pops up after sometime it will freeze my computer eventually the ipod tunes will show that it is downloading music to the ipod but when it is finished and tells me to disconnect there is nothing on the ipod please help
