Is Ad-aware the answer?Is it safe?

Sirs: This may seem quite silly for your experts,but it is important to me. I dowloaded ‘Hotbar’from a friend only to discover it’s spyware. ‘Doxdesk’ advised use of ‘Add and Remove’ but that caused my computer to freeze. Norton’s deleted some files, but could not delete all. A message said”You do not have the rights to delete this file”.Is Ad-aware the answer? Will it delete only spyware and not vital files or programmes I use? Please help. Scared of a crash as I am quite a novice. I thank you.Aisha Mawasi
