Keyboard Freeze during Win2000 or XP sta

I have a Gigabyte 6BXE motherboard which has a PS2 keyboard. The keyboard functions normally using Win98. The Keyboard hangs when loading Win2000 or Win XP….a look at the device list in XP using the mouse shows there is no keyboard device listed …can anyone please help !
