Laptop IDE HDD Crash

Friends, Have a stubborn problem. Laptop HDD would not boot up after making lot of noise(I should not have pushed so far after that)I just care about my personal data. So went with the straight forward approach, got a USB HDD enclosure from MADDOG and connected to desktop having xp home edition. XP recognized the very first time the HDD in the device manager but when i went to the properties and Volume information it had nothing in it. After i tried to reconnect, i see the HDD struggling noise to run but eventually become silent(i no longer able to see in the device manager also under HDD). can i assume the HDD can never be read ever and i am doomed.Please help.
