Laptop LCD Screen Problem — Broken?

by supz . Updated 21 years ago

Hi all. Hopefully someone will respond to this because I’m not sure where exactly to go from here. I normally am a guru of the desktop computers, but a friend has brought me her laptop in which the screen does not display anything. This is a dell inspiron 5100 laptop and the screen displays NOTHING at any time…What I want to do is first take the screen off to see if the cable came unplugged, but I have no idea how to take the screen off, and I don’t want to break her computer, lol. Hoping someone can help instruct me on how to remove the screen/lid on one of these dells…but, the way she described the screen error starting sounds very grim. She dropped this laptop on its side and after that the screen didn’t work. So, I would assume she’d probably have broken the LCD screen but my first step in troubleshooting this problem I think is to take off the screen to see what we’re working with…

thanks for your help.
