Laptop not shutting down

by mpd881 . Updated 20 years, 11 months ago

My company has an HP laptop that was purchased about 1 month ago. All was working great until two days ago when it stopped shutting down.

WHen you shut down, it gives you many messages “Ending Program, Please Wait” then “Program Not Responding” and give you the “End Now” or the “Cancel” buttons.

I get up to 12 of these messages for the different programs that are hanging. Everything from ATI Tray Icon to Explorer.exe. I tried uninstalling a couple of the problem programs and removing a couple more from msconfig. Those files are no long on the list, but it is still hanging.

When I finally get it to the explorer.exe box and end that one, it shuts down fine. How do I get these programs to stop locking up? I can’t find anything they have changed in the past few days, there are no viruses and I ran both Microsoft antispyware and Spybot and found nothing.

Thanks in advance
