Laptop with external speaker??

I just got my first laptop – Dell, Inspiron 3200. I work on them all of the time and I know how small the sound card is in the Dell laptops. I’d like to listen to my MP3’s after hooking up external PC speakers so it can “jam” but I don’t know if it will fry the sound card. I think I’ll be fine as long as they’re PC speakers but I thought I’d ask first. (3-pc.-> sub-woofer & 2 small speakers)
