Learn the basics of BIOS settings

In certain situations, it is advantageous to turn off power management and allow windows to stop at the “It is ok to turn off . . .” message and not automatically cut power to the box. With newer systems, this does not appear possible. Can someoneshed some light on whether this is a function of newer Bios settings or if it is still possible to accomplish this?
