Long Bootup Time

A coworker was given a Compaq Deskpro 166 with 96 MB RAM, that takes a very long time to boot up. I formatted the harddrive and was going to reinstall the OS and get rid of all the junk on the harddrive. However, upon boot up, it goes to a screen that says Compaq Deskpro and hangs there for a couple of minutes. How would I get rid of that Compaq screen that is causing the holdup? I was thinking I may have to update the BIOS?
