O/S – Win98SE – with all MS updates
The problem: When using Windows Explorer to delete files and/or folders, after the delete process ends, Explorer freezes for a full minute or two before allowing me to do anything else. This happens whether or not I use the recycle bin or shift-delete. Otherwise the system runs fine. Also, the problem is a little bit intermittent. Sometimes I can delete without any delay at all. I’ve seen this happen on more than one system but only with Win98SE.
What I’ve tried so far: A thorough Scandisk on all three of my hard drives. Defragged them all. Re-ran the Win98 setup. Did all the MS updates, except for Media Player 9. Ran msconfig and got rid of all the start-up programs. Also, I’ve made sure that memory was free by using memturbo – I currently have 512MB ofr DDR/PC-2700.
Since first encountering this problem, I’ve upgraded the motherboard & processor, changed the RAM from PC-133 to DDR-2700, swapped out all three hard drives (IBM Deskstar 60GB), upgraded video to GeForce Ti4200 and have a new NIC. I’m totally stumped with this one. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
