Loss of connection to mapped drive.

-HP server running Windows 2000 server with Service pack 1 installed
– directory called M on drive E is mapped to drive letter M
– when viewing the M drive in the “My Computer” console on the server, the drive mapping conection comes and goes
i.e. a red X appears and disappears on the M drive

Why is the mapped drive intermittently losing it’s connection?
