LPT 1 is busy while trying to Print

by tsqr1951 . Updated 24 years, 10 months ago

HELLO ALL:

I am trying to print from a Dell Lattitude CS Laptop to an HP Officejet T Series Printer, and I get the following Similair message:

“Cannot print to HP Office Jet, the Port LPT 1 is busy. It may be in use by other applications. close all applications and try again.”
The only applications open was MS Excel. I do have a feeling that there may be a problem with the Excel files my wife is trying to print; 4 linked documents loaded with MACROS (any thoughts on these?)

Now I tried the following:
Rebooted
Checked Pins on Serial Cable
Tried another Cable
Disabled Infrared Port on Laptop
Checked Device Manager for problems-Deleted LPT1. It reloaded on reboot.
Deleted and reloaded Driver
Checked ROM BIOS for any conflicts

Any Help is very much appreciated, as I am out of Ideas. this is a new printer and Laptop, both about one year old. the Laptop has 128MB RAM, running Windows 98.

TIA,

Jess
