LPT CD-RW causing USB Devices freeze up

I just got a LPT Cd-RW today and no matter what I did with drivers or settings, there would be conflicts with all of my USB hardware. I had the same problem with my old printer that I used to have on it. For example, with the burner, my Intellimouse explorer would freeze up for several seconds, then cut back in for a bit, then freeze again. The CD burner works fine, just having USB problems. Any suggestions on what I should do?
