lsass process using 50% cpu

I have a Dell Poweredge server, Dual p3-xeon, 1gb Memory, Win2K Server, mainly just a Domain controller for my native win2k domain. The lsass process is constantly at approx. 50% cpu usage. This started several weeks ago but do not know why, have not loaded any new apps or services. What could be causing this?
