Mac on Windows server

Our school just finished putting in a new network. I would like to be able to use my Macintosh on it so that I can download updates, but I don’t know how to go about it. I do know where to look for the network settings on my Windows computer, but I don’t know what information my Mac would need. Please let me know what information you need from me. I did try hooking it up once, but it didn’t work.
