Mail Merge E-mail w/OL2 Security Update

When I mail merge e-mails using OL2000 I get a pop up screen in Word stating “A program is trying to automatically send e-mail on your behalf”. This use to work just fine until I download the OL2000 Security Update. Now according to Microsoft I have to totally uninstall Office 2000 and reinstall it without the security update to get around this. Does anyone have another suggestion? Would upgrading to OfficeXP fix this?
