Is this the right spot to call for volunteers?
The nonprofits CompuMentor and Knowbility, invite the San Francisco Bay area web developers to participate in the first Accessibility Initiative Rally (AIR) California event on September 21st, 2002!
Three Reasons to Participate in AIR California
1.Build your skill set. Be amongst the first Web Developers able to build sites in compliance with the WC3?s WAI. We offer a one day training designed to help Web designers learn how to create Web sites that are accessible to people with different-abilties and how to teach others to do so.
2.It?s a worthy cause and there is huge need. Access to the information and services on the Web has the potential to dramatically enhance the life of someone who is differently-abled. Ninety-eight percent of Websites today are inaccessible to people with sight, hearing, speech, mobility, or cognitive impairments.
3.Federal law requires that web sites are accessible. A series of laws in the last decade have made accessibility a requirement of all public spaces and ?cyber spaces.?
About the Rally:
10 teams of professional Web developers will receive training on how to build accessible Web sites in accordance with the established federal mandates and the standards developed by the WAI. These teams will be matched with 10 non-profits for a head to head competition in which the teams turn information into action as they actually construct an accessible web site for their organization. Non profit personal will also attend a seminar where they will learn the skills and requirements of web accessibility and lay plans for an accessible web site for their organization.
Visit the AIR California web site for more info! Registration required by August 15.
