Managing processes running in backgroud?

I need to know how do I manage my background processes. With Win98 you have msconfig and you can kill processes that run. I need to know how do I do this with Win2k? I went to manage and found out I have 19 items running at startup most of which I am not even using. It takes 3 minutes to get windows started after login. How can I rid myself of this problem?
