Recently installed an XP Home PC in an existing peer-to-peer home network with 2 ME PCs. Found that XP’s resources could be shared to the ME machines, but could not get the ME machines’ resources to be seen, no matter what I tried. Further confirmedit was an ME problem by hooking up a Win2000 Pro laptop in the same manner and was able to see its resources in XP.
I spent a considerable amount of time with tech support from the OEM (Sony) and they concluded that it must be some kind of shortcoming within ME. The client has resolved to upgrade the ME machine to XP Home for the purpose of sharing resources, but in the meantime I wondered if any of you illustrious fellow techs had come across anything like this and have any feedback to add. If this is in fact true, Microsoft stands to lose face if their two most current home OS’s can’t network properly.
