Media Player Slow Audio

I have a system which uses an intel motherboard with on board Yamaha sound. The CPU is a 333 mhz pentium2 with 128Meg of Ram. The curren OS is Windows ME. My problem is that version 6 and 7 of media player play sond at about half speed. This problemexisted under Windows 98 SE. I have had to configre CD playback to analog to play music CD’s. I have installed RealPlayer and it works just fine. Any help will be appreciated.
